When the voting age was lowered from 21 to 18 in 1971, Pete ran for the Saddle Brook Board of Education and was elected at the age of 18 in 1972. He served a total of 5 years on the Board of Education, chairing committees and being selected by the Board as Vice President and twice as President, making him, at that time, the youngest School Board President in the United States.

Pete was selected by the Saddle Brook Township Council in 1976 to fill a vacant Council seat. He served on the Council for a total of 5½ years, and also served as Council President. In 1985, Pete was elected Mayor of the Township of Saddle Brook and served for 4 years. During that time he also served on both the Library Board and the Planning Board.

Pete was appointed Township Clerk on January 1, 1997 and has held the position since then. He also serves as the Township Administrator and as the Mayor’s Alternate to the Library Board.
