SADDLE BROOK RECREATION SOCCER OVERVIEW

The Township of Saddle Brook offers a recreation soccer program to provide the children of Saddle Brook in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade, the opportunity to play soccer in a safe and encouraging environment regardless of their ability.

Saddle Brook Recreational Soccer is guided by the principle of, “Let the kids have fun” This should be accomplished through a structured program which will challenge our players while continually building on their skills.

Saddle Brook Recreational Soccer is not focused on winning or losing.  Game scores and standings are not kept or recorded.  We strive to develop players at all levels of play by building and improving their skills, confidence, fitness, initiative and a sense of teamwork while allowing them to enjoy a fun environment.

In the recreational program, players receive equal playing time and experience playing a variety of positions throughout the season so that they get a better understanding of the game. There are no tryouts required to participate for recreation soccer. Our Recreation Soccer season runs from August through October.

  • Practices occur in the month of August.  Once games begin any additional practices are per coach availability.
  • Games are typically once or twice per week on week nights in September and October.
  • Fall recreation soccer season consists of 10 games.

In addition, we offer a KinderKicks Program which is for children entering kindergarten in the fall.  Kinderkicks hold 2 sessions of fun soccer drills and 6 games held on weekends starting in September and ending in October.

For those players looking to play in a competitive environment Saddle Brook also runs Travel Soccer Program that participatesin the Northern Counties Soccer Association League which is a high level competitive Club soccer league. In this program, the focus is on the development of player skills and provides players the option to play in a league striving for the highest level of soccer competition. These teams will be selected based upon the skill, desire, and dedication of the player. There will be at least two tryouts for each team in May and it is strongly encouraged that players attend all tryouts.

Travel Soccer Games are generally on Saturdays for the boysteams and Sundays for the girls teams, which avoids conflicts with Recreation Soccer games.

Players who try out for these teams and are successful are still expected to play in Saddle Brook Recreation Soccer.  Our Recreation coaches are advised and understand that the Travel/Select practices have priority, especially the trainer-led sessions.  Saddle Brook Soccer encourages all Travel/Select players to attend at least one Recreation practice per week and they must play in the Recreation games.
