Post 415 of the Jamros-Baker-Schneider American Legion was chartered in 1946. Located at 302 Midland Avenue, the Legion does not stand alone. It is a family which consists of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion which are critical parts of its organization. Their participation is the Post’s future.
The American Legion sponsors sending girls to Girls’ State and boys to Boys’ State. This is a program in which children learn and participate in state government. It sponsors a Night of Bingo at the Paramus Veterans’ Home in Paramus. The Post provides cake and juice after the games.
The Post also runs several fund raising functions, like Atlantic City bus rides, scholarship dinner dances, car washes, Chinese auctions, and pasta and beefsteak dinners. The Post is then able to donate money to the Fire Department, the Police Department, and the Ambulance Corps. It delivers food baskets to needy families in town for the Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter holidays, and helps stock a food pantry.
The words “American Legion” demand “that the wearer shall ever guard the sanctity of home and country and free institutions . . .” There shines the emblem of the American Legion. It is its badge of pride and distinction of honor and service. Robert Paterson is the present commander.
